History: She was designed and built for a KNS (Royal Norwegian Y.C.) syndicate in 1947. The famous Finn Chr. Ferner sailed her to two Scandinavian Gold Cup victories in 1951 and 1952 plus also securing a silver medal in the last Olympics the 6mR class participated in ( Helsinki ’52), being edged out in the last race by USA’s “Llanoria“, skippered by Herman Whiton. For a couple of years shw was owned by Fredrick Horn under the name “Cutter”. After the Olympics, Bryan Newkirk, who also owned Buzzy II, purchased Elisabeth X and brought her to Canada, where she was renamed KC9 Bibis, after Newkirk’s granddaughter. She sailed in the Toronto area for many years, winning the Toronto Globe & Mail North Americans in 1959 and many other contests on Lake Ontario. She and was acquired by Hans Oen and Charlie Hoffmann in 1999. Charlie and Hans shipped the boat to Europe for a few years, sailing in the 1999 World Championships at Hanko, Finland, and the 2002 Europeans at Rungsted, Denmark, where she placed 2nd. The boat won other trophies and awards, including the Baron’s Perpetual Award at the 2003 Svendborg Classic Week. Elisabeth X joined the extended Pacific Northwest family in 2016 and will be part of the Vancouver Fleet. She received a light treatment to her bottom and topside paint and participated in the 2016 North Americans in San Francisco and has now been thoroughly restored in anticipation of the 2017 World Championships in Vancouver.
