History: Originally named Steverino, after Brian Wertheimer’s father, this boat was built to compete in the 1985 Worlds sailed at Cannes. After returning to Seattle, Brian steered her to victory in the 1986 North American Championships. He then took the boat to the 1987 Worlds held at Oyster Bay, placing 10th out of 23 entries. Steverino was one of the first wing keeled Sixes, along with the Bruce Kirby designed Capriccio and Ed Dubois’ Pacific Highway (now in the UK). The boat was renamed “Haute Flash” under new owners Pat Goodfellow, Harry McGuane, and Dick Hansen and was a frequent participant in mid-Summer races out of Kirkland, on Lake Washington. When Jay Hart bought out Harry & Dick’s shares, the boat was moved to Port Madison, where Pat and Jay won the Sir Thomas Lipton Cup in 1996. The boat subsequently became known as “Finnegan” in 2005 when Andy Parker assumed ownership. Finnegan went on to win many contests on Puget Sound including the 2006 Nationals and the 2007 Sir Thomas Lipton Cup. In the search for ever more speed, Andy Parker made modifications to the keel configuration and extended the depth of the rudder to make the boat more responsive. In 2014 Finnegan was acquired by current owner Phillip Lockwood who completed further keel work in the winter of 2014/15. Finnegan’s underwater profile now includes a beaver tail shaped keel element along with a deep aspect rudder.
Finnegan spends the summer sailing from Gabriola Island while racing out of RVYC, Vancouver, BC. She also participated at the 2017 World Championship, which was being held at the RVYC.
